VIRTUAL SHOE MUSEUM
Level Shoe District is bringing some of the most eccentric and whimsical shoes ever created to "Shoe Atelier" with an exciting, two-week exhibition in collaboration with Virtual Shoe Museum. More sculpture than shoe, more building than boot and more high-concept than high heel, the selection of shoe designs that will be on display at the exhibition as of the 28th of October and have been hand-picked and carefully edited by Level
Shoe District to show that wearable does not always equate to walkable. This exhibit is in collaboration with Virtual Shoe Museum – the personal shoe collection turned full-time job of Dutch shoe enthusiast Liza Snook. After several popular exhibitions of her archive at design institutes worldwide, Snook will be bringing a selection of pioneering shoes to Dubai for the first time ever to coincide with Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience.
Artist: Youngwon Kim. From: Republic of Korea. The concept of this collection can be referred to the broad notion of postmodernism. Since postmodernism is too broad as a concept, I have conducted the project with the emphasis on certain characteristics that are opposite to the general idea of formalism. I am personally interested in designs that go beyond the existing framework and form.
By challenging and modifying what is already formalized as a form or a set of rules, I have intended to try and develop a collection of new footwear designs that stretch the boundaries of visual, technical and functional forms. To an extent to which the original wearable function of footwear is not undermined by the excess of design, I attempt to seek some new possibilities of footwear design and develop the idea consistently.
