THE SHOE SURGEON | THE W-21’S GUEST HACKER FOR FALL L.A.’s Dominic Chambrone has ascended the ranks to become one of the most creative and prolific sneaker customizers in the world. With more than 170K followers on social media feeds and the likes of Complex, Highsnobiety and Hypebeast hailing him as among the top-tier practitioners, the Shoe Surgeon brings his imaginative blend of craftsmanship, artistry and footwear connoisseurship to Amsterdam in an exclusive collaboration at W-21, the Experimental Shoe Store of ECCO Sko A/S, Denmark.
TANNERY HACK CAPSULE COLLECTION FOR FALL Chambrone follows on the heels of Emily Kroll and Rachel Freire as a W-21 guest “Hacker”, invited to run amok through the backrooms and secret archives of ECCO Leather’s Dutch tannery to select the most premium leathers and unique finishes with which he’ll transform iconic ECCO shoe styles into highly limited edition celebrations of luxury shoemaking. Chambrone was inspired by the terracotta roofscapes of Portugal and his twist on ECCO’s latest signature styles reflect the deep earthen tones and low lustre of Portugal’s unique atmosphere. Armed with his pencil, knife and sewing-machine Dominic took the liberty of swapping the upper/sole combinations of some of the original designs to create even more unique interpretations. His Tannery Hack capsule collection will be introduced and sold in limited numbers only at W-21.
LIVE SUPER-HACK EVENT AT W-21 Cutting-edge assembly technology of DIRECT-INJECTION for a single bespoke shoe The power of ECCO Sko A/S is in the company’s deep experience and hard-won acumen in the rarefied science of direct-injection-production. This cutting-edge assembly technology relies on finely tuned fully anatomical moulds, complex injection engineering and specialized production systems all geared to produce the highest levels of dynamic comfort. These are not the type of resources that would normally be harnessed to produce only one pair of shoes. But during this one exceptional event, they will. THE DOCTOR WILL BE IN & THE SURGERY WILL BE OPEN Dominic will create a pop-up design and development atelier directly on the 2nd floor of the W-21 shop in Amsterdam. Launching on the 14th of September, he will be keeping studio-hours over the course of the event in order to consult directly with clients seeking to co-design their own Shoe Surgeon super-hack combining elite specialized leathers from the tannery with ECCO Sko’s latest comfort innovations. Finished design concepts will then be sent out for a rapid turnaround, full force production organized to deliver one insanely exclusive shoe built and styled to the tastes of the individual client and reflecting the distinct creative handwriting of Dominic Chambrone.
