River Island 70's inspired Collection
For Spring Summer 2016 River Island creates a new and exciting collection where traditional trends for the season are given a contemporary revamp offering a fresh and unique approach with a distinctive River Island twist. Print is key with stripes and florals featuring throughout whilst slices of bold colour break up a palette of neutrals, blacks and earthy tones. With a Latino influence Carmen is sultry, bold and exotic, traditional Spanish flamenco meets contemporary for a juxtaposition of sexy and sculpted styles. Dresses take on a sexier approach with mesh and lace panelling whilst shoulder detailing prevails, with off the shoulder, cold shoulder and one shoulder styles combined with romantic ruffles and frills to give a Spanish feel to the trend. The simple monochrome palette is injected with red hues and splashes of vibrant ochre, hot pink and fuchsia. Lace, embroidery and laser cutting add texture and elegant detailing whilst stripes and floral prints add elements of fun and youthfulness. Le Chic embraces the relaxed and laidback elegance of utility dressing. Simple shirt-dresses and jackets in sage are updated with zips and pocket detailing to take on a modern safari vibe. Sunset hues of yellows, oranges and bronze break up the summer dark palette of khaki, black and neutrals to inject life and freshness to the trend for spring. Lightweight yarns and suedette add texture, creating perfect pieces for summer layering. Hints of modern ethnic are interspersed with exotic African prints and cooler colours to create a lighter and fresher side to the trend. Etienne Eclectic is a new and fresh update to 70’s dressing. A dark story made up of tobacco browns, onyx and sage, it combines a melange of prints from patchwork to florals. Heavily beaded slip dresses are worn with metallic bomber jackets for a tough girl feel, whilst studs and metal trimmings create a harder edge on the more simple pieces. Suede is a key fabric in rich ochres, whilst fringing, peasant blouses and embroidery create a wearable collection for a casual daytime look. Etienne Blue mixes unusual colour combinations with hard tones contrasted against soft colours; clashing blues and oranges. Clean denim features throughout with shirts, skirts and dresses teamed with pretty girl frills and lace, for a slight 70’s reference. Dominated by stripes in all shapes and sizes, Spa Sea veers away from traditional nautical and is fresh and eclectic. With tones of blue and white forming the base colours, pops of yellow and emerald green offer refreshing bursts of brights to the trend steering it away from customary marine shades. Tailored and structured is replaced by a clean, relaxed and calm approach. Fresh candy stripes triumph coming in all shapes and sizes, with silver trims incorporated for added shore side glamour.
